Remembering Adam Firestorm
Adam Dykes, better known on the Pacific Northwest scene as TORCH, EL ANTORCHA and ADAM FIRESTORM, tragically passed away on November 5, 2009, at the age of 32. A former ECCW Champion and two-time NWA Canadian Jr. Heavyweight Champion, Firestorm is fondly remembered by fans and wrestlers alike, for his amazing wrestling performances, his outstanding video-editing skills, and his wonderfully friendly personality.
Every November since his passing, Big West’s fellow CNWA affiliate, All Star Wrestling, has hosted a “Firestorm Memorial” card, in Adam’s honor. With a lavish memorial championship as the focal point of those shows, it has also been a chance for members of Adam’s family back in New Zealand to come to B.C. and realize how special Adam meant to so many of us here on the West Coast wrestling scene.
This year, we need your help: financial setbacks might keep anyone from Adam’s family from attending. This simply cannot happen. Longtime Vancouver wrestling fan, Erin Schulte, is diligently working behind the scenes to help set up a fund to fly some of Adam’s family out for the show this November; it’s a pricey project, so any financial assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
The deadline to purchase flights is October 31. Please contact Big West promoter, Martin Solotki, directly via email (bigwestwrestling@me.com) for more information on how you can help. Thanks, and please spread the word!
